Outrage Erupts in Tripura: Shocking Bail for Doctors’ Assailants Amid Legal Turmoil | Guwahati News
Agartala: The All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association (ATGDA) expressed dissatisfaction after a local court in Unokoti district granted bail to three individuals, including Shyamal Das, a BJP Zilla Parishad member, following their arrest for allegedly assaulting an on-duty doctor. The incident took place at a district hospital’s emergency unit when the group attacked Dr. Droupad Das as he attended to a road accident victim. Despite the Prevention of Violence Against Healthcare Professionals and Clinical Establishments Act, 2022, which treats such offences as cognizable and non-bailable, the accused were charged under different sections that allowed for bail. This decision has sparked outrage among medical professionals, who are now threatening statewide protests to demand better workplace security. CCTV footage from the hospital showed the accused becoming aggressive and even slapping the doctor in front of police officers who also faced misconduct during the altercation. The ATGDA’s call for protests underscores the ongoing struggle for healthcare professionals’ safety and the need for strict enforcement of protective laws.
