Delhi Breathes Easier: Remarkable Improvement as Air Quality Reaches ‘Moderate’ with AQI at 186
The air quality in Delhi has shown signs of improvement, reaching the moderate category with an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 186 as of 7 AM today, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board. Despite this overall improvement, certain areas within the city have reported higher AQI levels, surpassing the 200 mark, which is considered unhealthy. Notably, Shadipur Station recorded an AQI of 287, while Anand Vihar, Mundka, Jahangirpuri, and Nehru Nagar registered AQIs of 246, 245, 239, and 233 respectively.
Residents should remain cautious, especially in these higher pollution zones. The elevated values indicate substantial air pollution levels, posing health risks for sensitive groups, including children, elderly, and those with respiratory issues.
Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting that Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) will likely witness smog and shallow fog during the evening and night hours over the next two days. This weather condition may further impact air quality and visibility, exacerbating the health impacts of poor air conditions.
Authorities advise the public to limit outdoor activities during peak pollution hours and to use masks for protection. Continued monitoring and measures to mitigate pollution are essential to ensure public safety and health.
While there’s a slight relief in terms of air quality improvement, the situation underscores the persistent challenges related to pollution in Delhi. Residents and policymakers alike must stay vigilant and proactive to manage and reduce pollution levels effectively.
