Stunning Crackdown: Telangana ACB Triumphantly Nabs 27 Corrupt Officers in November
In November 2024, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) marked substantial strides in its anti-corruption campaign, culminating in the registration of 17 trap cases and one disproportionate assets case. These efforts led to the arrest and judicial remand of 27 government employees, including three outsourced staff. The crackdown resulted in the seizure of ₹3.54 crore in bribes across various crucial departments such as Panchayat Raj, Education, Police, Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), and more. A significant case involved the uncovering of illegal assets worth ₹17.73 crore linked to the Irrigation Department.
The ACB also achieved crucial victories in older corruption cases, securing convictions in three separate incidents. On November 7, Jilagam Venkateswara Rao from GHMC, Rajendranagar, received a one-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for a 2013 trap case. Thoguri Pochaiah, a Deputy Commercial Tax Officer from Mancherial Circle, was sentenced to three years on November 12 for a 2013 case. P. Ashok, an Assistant Engineer with Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, was sentenced on November 13 to two years of imprisonment for a 2012 case.
The ACB continues to urge the public to report any corruption via its toll-free helpline 1064 or through social media channels like X (@TelanganaACB) and Facebook (@telanganaacb), ensuring swift action against corruption. This report was published on December 3, 2024, at 11:54 am IST.
