Empowering Lives: Transformative Awareness Programme for Children with Special Needs Unveiled in Itanagar
The April Blossom Foundation, an NGO from Arunachal Pradesh, launched an awareness and sensitization camp on November 30 in Itanagar, aimed at supporting Children with Special Needs (CwSN). The program, which also offered free consultations, was graced by Tai Tagak, former Advisor to the Chief Minister and a BJP president, as the chief guest.
Dr. Pranab Kalpa Hazarika, a Neuro Development Therapist from Guwahati, served as a resource person, providing training to parents on how to effectively support their children with special needs. The camp emphasized providing parents with the tools and knowledge needed to cater to the unique learning and participation requirements of their children due to various disabilities.
Tai Tagak, speaking with India Today NE, lauded the foundation’s efforts to spotlight this crucial social issue, emphasizing that the government offers welfare schemes to assist such children. He highlighted the significance of these awareness programs in offering parents access to specialists and resources, fostering a supportive environment for their children’s development.
Binde Jini, the founder of April Blossom, expressed satisfaction with the program’s success, noting the active participation of parents, students, and resource individuals. She encouraged parents not to hide their children but to seek knowledge and assistance through similar initiatives, stressing the importance of special care and education.
Koj Baya Eshi, Asia International Beauty winner, also urged parents to remain strong and ensure their children are provided adequate care and education, aiming for them to achieve their full potential.
Dr. Hazarika advised that children with special needs receive specialized training, such as stress management and memory development, before the age of six, a critical period for brain development. He committed to supporting April Blossom Foundation’s future endeavors for CwSN in Arunachal and other states, aiming for their holistic progress.
