Meghalaya’s Spirited Fight Ends at 178: Thrilling Cooch Behar Trophy Clash with Baroda
In a gripping opening day at the MCA Ground, Polo, Meghalaya were dismissed for 178 in their first innings against Baroda in the U-19 men’s Cooch Behar Trophy 2024-25 Elite Group A clash. Baroda, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the tournament, ended the day at 55 without loss, trailing by 123 runs.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Meghalaya encountered early setbacks, with their top order struggling to establish firm partnerships. Openers Shubham Rasaily and Manthan Dey managed to survive the initial 10 overs but quickly fell alongside others as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Kshitij Singhania offered some resilience with a patient 22 off 48 deliveries before his eventual dismissal.
A significant contribution came from the lower order, led by fast bowler Shavian Blah, who played an aggressive innings of 52 from 57 balls, featuring seven fours and a six. His efforts, alongside Angkit Tamang’s steadfast 33 not out off 111 balls, and Ashish Kumar Lohar’s brisk 25 from 35 deliveries, proved crucial in pushing Meghalaya’s total to 178.
Baroda’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Pavan Patel, whose endurance and precision yielded impressive figures of 4/58 from 23 overs, decisively curbing Meghalaya’s batting efforts.
As Baroda commenced their innings, openers Nitya J Pandya (40 not out off 57 balls) and Smit Rathva (13 not out off 39 balls) navigated the remaining 16 overs with composure. Their unbroken stand places Baroda in a commanding position, promising an intriguing contest on day two as they seek to capitalize on their solid start and extend their unbeaten run in the tournament.
