Urgent: Tensions Mount in Bengal BJP Amidst Alarming Losing Streak – Discover the Key Political Turmoil!
In the recent West Bengal Assembly bypolls on November 13, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, achieved a sweeping victory, further underscoring the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decline in the state. The TMC secured all six contested seats, expanding its winning margins from the 2021 Assembly elections. Notably, the TMC captured the Madarihat seat in Alipurduar district from the BJP for the first time, marking a significant shift in a region previously dominated by the BJP.
The BJP’s campaign, focusing on issues like the RG Kar hospital incident and corruption allegations against TMC figures, failed to stem its decline. Earlier, in the July bypolls, the BJP also lost four seats to the TMC, reflecting a worrying trend for the party that had previously led these areas in the 2021 Assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
This series of losses has sparked internal turmoil within the BJP, with calls to replace the state party president, Sukanta Majumder, who is also a Union minister. Criticism within the party suggests a lack of strategic planning and robust leadership as factors contributing to its losses. Veteran BJP leader Tathagata Roy voiced concerns about the party’s perception as anti-Bengali and underscored the need for a strong counter-narrative against the TMC.
Despite the internal dissent, Majumder remains optimistic about the 2026 Assembly elections. Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh mocked the BJP’s internal conflicts, likening them to a ‘circus,’ as the TMC continues to consolidate its power in West Bengal. As the BJP grapples with leadership and organizational challenges, the TMC’s firm grasp on the state seems unshakeable, posing a significant challenge for the BJP in forthcoming elections.
