Urgent: Discover What’s Still Allowed & Banned Under GRAP-IV in Delhi-NCR as AQI Hits ‘Severe Plus’
Delhi’s air quality plunged into the “hazardous” category on Monday, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to enforce Stage-IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). With pollution levels hitting ‘severe plus’ at an Air Quality Index of 483 by 7 a.m., stringent control measures were put in place to address the crisis in Delhi-NCR.
Effective from 8 a.m., these measures include a ban on truck entry, suspension of construction projects, and restrictions on non-essential vehicle movement. Trucks not carrying essential goods or using clean fuel, and non-essential outside light commercial vehicles, excluding EVs and CNG/BS-VI diesel ones, will be restricted. Additionally, Delhi-registered BS-IV or older diesel vehicles are banned unless engaged in essential services.
Education institutes are affected, with the Delhi government mandating online classes for students up to Class 9 and Class 11. Online learning is also advised for Classes 6 to 9 and Class 11 students due to deteriorating air quality. Offices in the NCR are encouraged to operate at 50% capacity, with other staff working remotely. The government is contemplating similar work-from-home arrangements for central employees.
In the face of this environmental emergency, state governments might turn to more drastic measures such as closing colleges, limiting non-essential commercial activities, and implementing odd-even vehicle regulations.
