Indian Cinema Triumphs: A Proud and Emotional Victory at Leeds with Best Film Award
Mumbai, Nov 15: Manoj Bajpayee’s film “The Fable,” directed by Raam Reddy, has made history as the first Indian film to clinch the Best Film award at the 38th Leeds International Film Festival in the UK. Celebrated actor Manoj Bajpayee described the achievement as a proud moment for Indian cinema. He expressed his gratitude and excitement for being part of a project that has connected with audiences worldwide. Bajpayee praised Reddy’s exceptional storytelling and the magic realism that infused depth into the film. The team, including Pratap Reddy, Juhi Agarwal, executive producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, and co-stars Priyanka Bose, Deepak Dobriyal, and Tillotama Shome, played crucial roles in bringing this narrative to life.
The Fable’s recent awards include its world premiere at the Berlinale Film Festival 2024 and the Special Jury Prize at the 2024 MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Director Raam Reddy commended the Leeds festival for its remarkable selection of nearly 250 films and called it an Academy Award qualifying platform. He expressed gratitude for the heartfelt audience engagement during its UK premiere, dedicating the award to his passionate and dedicated team.
Executive Producer Guneet Monga Kapoor highlighted the recognition as a testament to Reddy’s vision and Bajpayee’s outstanding performance. Achin Jain echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the film’s magical realism and audience engagement evidenced by a full house staying for a 45-minute Q&A after a midnight screening.
“The Fable,” set in the serene Indian Himalayas, narrates the story of a family on an orchard estate whose calm life is disrupted by mysterious occurrences. Bajpayee portrays Dev, alongside strong performances by Priyanka Bose, Deepak Dobriyal, Tillotama Shome, and Hiral Sidhu. An India-US collaboration between Prspctvs Productions and Maxmedia, the film features Academy Award-winning producers Monga Kapoor and Jain of Sikhya Entertainment as Executive Producers. Competing against renowned international films like “Simon of the Mountain,” “Toxic,” and “Lovable,” The Fable stands as a beacon for Indian storytelling on global platforms.
