Krishi Mela 2024, themed “Climate Smart Digital Farming,” was inaugurated on November 14 at Gandhi Krishi Vignan Kendra, UAS-Bangalore. The event highlighted cutting-edge agricultural technology, featuring over 700 stalls showcasing AI-operated sprinklers, app-controlled solar equipment, and multi-spectral drones for yield monitoring. Robotics like boom sprayers and automated bird scarers attracted significant attention.
A standout technology was ‘Nero’ by Bengaluru-based Fyllo, offering real-time soil and environmental alerts with a user-friendly app. Mewin Technology impressed with an app enabling farmers to remotely control pumps and motors, optimizing farm operations.
Farmers shared mixed feedback. Anand from Mandya praised the Mela for enhancing his farm’s productivity through new technologies. However, Rajesh from Basaralu village expressed concerns about the high costs, highlighting affordability issues for small-scale farmers.
Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy emphasized the importance of integrating modern technology for sustainable, profitable farming. He outlined government initiatives, including distributing ₹1,000 crore worth of machinery and irrigation equipment with subsidies and providing ₹2,100 crore in direct cash transfers for crop insurance. The Hi-Tech Harvester Hub scheme further supports farmers with large harvesting machines and financial assistance.
