Empowering the Fight Against Narcotics: Tawang Police’s Determined District-Level Meeting in Arunachal
The Tawang Police recently organized a District-level Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, with Deputy Commissioner Sang Khandu at the helm. The primary goal of the meeting was to enhance inter-agency collaboration to effectively address narcotics-related activities in the Tawang region.
Attending the session were several notable figures, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Tasso Kato, Divisional Forest Officer Piyush Gaikwad, District Education Officer Hridar Phuntsok, as well as representatives from intelligence agencies, paramilitary forces, and the local Bazaar Committee. This assembly underscored the collective effort required to tackle the narcotics issue.
Dy SP Tasso Kato presented the existing measures aimed at combating drug trafficking, emphasizing the importance of community involvement. He called on Bazaar Secretaries and Gaon Burahs to provide critical intelligence that could lead to the identification and apprehension of local drug peddlers. A proactive approach from the community was highlighted through the Bazaar Secretaries’ proposal to conduct unscheduled market inspections as a deterrent.
Representatives from the Intelligence Bureau and paramilitary forces contributed additional recommendations to enhance coordination among the various agencies. These suggestions are aimed at creating a unified front in the battle against narcotics, reflecting the discussions’ robust and comprehensive nature.
In closing, Deputy Commissioner Sang Khandu underscored the necessity of holding regular NCORD meetings to maintain vigilance against the threat of narcotics. He pointed out the current low incidence of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases in the area but stressed the importance of taking proactive measures to prevent any rise in such activities. Khandu advocated for continuous collaboration between intelligence bodies and local Bazaar Committees to ensure early intervention and effective prevention.
The meeting highlighted the importance of community and inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding Tawang from the growing menace of narcotics.
