Breaking: Security Forces Uncover Massive Arms Cache in Manipur’s Peaceful Hills and Valleys
Security forces executed comprehensive search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts, successfully seizing a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. This sweep underscores ongoing efforts to maintain safety and stability in the region.
The operation led to the recovery of an array of firearms including four 12-bore single-barrel rifles, one locally manufactured 7.62 mm rifle, and a .303 rifle. Additional findings included three country-made ‘Pompi’ firearms, a single country-made Lathode gun, and two AK-47 magazines accompanied by 40 live rounds of ammunition. Enhancing the seriousness of the threat, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also discovered.
Further to the arms seizures, authorities confiscated two country-made 9mm pistols with a magazine, a .22 rifle with a magazine, and a locally crafted launcher referred to as a “Pompi.” They also secured a .36 high-explosive grenade, six live rounds, 27 empty shell casings, and a Lathode empty case.
Search teams additionally found defensive and tactical gear such as two smoke grenades, five tear gas shells, a “BAOFENG” communication handset, and a pair of bulletproof (BP) jackets, complete with a BP plate and jungle boots. These discoveries were predominantly concentrated in the Utangpokpi Hill area of the Kakching district.
Such recoveries reflect the scale of potential threats within the region and highlight the effectiveness of ongoing security operations. The findings are indicative of concerted efforts by security forces to neutralize and dismantle threats in vulnerable districts, reinforcing the safety net for local communities.
