Tragic Incident: Brave Doctor Seriously Injured in Shocking Miscreants’ Firing in Imphal
Imphal: A doctor in Imphal, Manipur, was injured in a shooting on Saturday night when unidentified gunmen targeted him at his clinic. Dr. Moirangthem Dhanabir, who serves as the Managing Director of the Diabetes Healthcare Research Centre (DHRC) in the Porompat area of Imphal East district, was consulting with three men who presented themselves as patients. A dispute occurred during the consultation, after which one of the men produced a pistol and shot Dr. Dhanabir, injuring him in the left arm.
The assailants fled the scene, firing additional rounds at an ambulance parked outside before escaping. Dr. Dhanabir was promptly taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East for treatment, where his condition is being monitored.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, registering a case and probing potential motives behind the attack. Although no group or individual has claimed responsibility, authorities suspect the shooting might be linked to extortion demands by underground organizations or criminal elements operating in the region.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over security and criminal activities in Manipur, prompting law enforcement to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of medical professionals and residents in the area.
