Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister, T R Zeliang, who oversees National Highway development, will undertake a four-day visit starting November 11 to evaluate significant National Highway projects across five districts: Phek, Kiphire, Tuensang, Shamator, and Mokokchung. This initiative reflects the Nagaland government’s strong commitment to improving road connectivity, fostering economic growth, and enhancing travel safety for its citizens, as stated by the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office’s Media Cell.
During the tour, Deputy Chief Minister Zeliang will visit various project sites, engaging with engineers, NHIDCL officials, contractors, and local organizations. This mission underscores the state government’s priority on road infrastructure development to improve transportation networks, enhance accessibility, and reduce commute times for residents.
Zeliang emphasized that bolstering road infrastructure is vital for economic growth and regional connectivity, representing a significant investment in the state’s future. The government is determined to complete all highway projects maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. Insights gained from the visit will inform future road infrastructure plans and accelerate ongoing projects.
Accompanied by NPWD (NH) officers, Zeliang’s tour will span districts and key highways, including Phek (702A), Kiphire-Shamator-Tuensang (NH-202), and Mokokchung (NH-702D & NH-02). The Deputy Chief Minister expressed his anticipation for meaningful interactions with stakeholders, implementing agencies, and contractors during this tour.
Particularly under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and with support from Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, the state government is dedicated to developing sustainable roads throughout Nagaland.
The tour aims to assess project progress, examine timelines, and ensure adherence to national quality and safety standards. Moreover, it will evaluate environmental construction practices, gather community feedback, resolve obstacles with contractors and local communities, and potentially secure additional state support to ensure timely project completion.
