Heartfelt Condemnation: Hmar Apex Body Denounces Tragic Arson and Killing in Manipur Village

Aizawl: The Hmar Inpui, the leading organization for the Hmar tribe in Manipur, has strongly denounced the recent attack on the village of Zairawn near Jiribam. On Thursday night, suspected Meitei militants reportedly set fire to 17 homes and killed a 31-year-old woman, Zosangkim Hmar, in a horrifying manner that included rape, shooting, and burning her alive. Her remains were found with her brain beside the charred body.

The incident highlights a disturbing pattern of ethnic violence attributed to Meitei militants, with the Hmar Inpui emphasizing this attack as part of an 18-month campaign of terror against Hmar communities. The organization perceives these ongoing acts as attempts to erase their people, seize land, and obliterate their existence.

In light of the violent incident, the Hmar Inpui calls for unity among the tribal Kuki-Hmar-Mizo-Zomi communities, urging them to defend their lives, safeguard their lands, and uphold the dignity of their peoples against such brutal campaigns.

This recent attack adds to increasing concerns over ethnic strife in Manipur, drawing attention to the urgent need for accountability and peace efforts in the region.
