Baghamara (Jharkhand), Nov 9: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reiterated his commitment to a “khata-khat” direct transfer of a Rs 2,500 monthly allowance for women and vowed that the future INDIA bloc administration in Jharkhand will enhance tribal dignity and lift the 50% quota cap on caste-based reservations. Addressing an election rally in Baghamara, Gandhi criticized the BJP for neglecting tribal communities and prioritizing the interests of businessmen while ignoring farmers and laborers.
He emphasized joblessness and inflation as major challenges for the youth and women, blaming GST’s flawed design for increasing financial burdens. Describing GST as a mechanism that disadvantages the poor, Gandhi accused the BJP of equitably taxing various income groups, thus reinforcing economic disparities.
Gandhi underscored the INDIA bloc’s dedication to a caste census, asserting that it is crucial for ensuring social justice and inclusive decision-making among marginalized groups. He noted the underrepresentation of marginalized communities in national budgetary decisions, with only 6% influence despite comprising 90% of the population.
The Congress leader promised Jharkhand voters several initiatives, including a Rs 2,500 monthly financial aid for women, an increased minimum support price for paddy, and 200 free electricity units. He also pledged affordable cooking gas cylinders at Rs 450 and monthly ration provisions. Furthermore, Gandhi assured the creation of 10 lakh jobs, the establishment of degree and professional colleges, and a 500-acre industrial park in Jharkhand.
Expressing confidence in the INDIA bloc’s prospects in the forthcoming elections, Gandhi envisioned a government committed to restoring prosperity for the poor, laborers, and farmers. Jharkhand’s assembly elections are scheduled for November 12 and November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
