Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, today inaugurated the “Purvottar Aadi Mahotsav” in Guwahati, an eight-day national tribal festival designed to highlight and promote the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities. In his address, Minister Oram emphasized the government’s commitment to the rapid development of tribal areas, noting recent enhancements in the Ministry’s structure and budget as a testament to this effort. The Ministry has earmarked a substantial investment of 3.5 lakh crore rupees for tribal advancement this year, with plans to construct 25,000 kilometers of roads in tribal regions.
The festival, organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with TRIFED, runs until November 15, 2024. It offers a platform for craftsmen, chefs, and performers from 13 states to showcase their traditional arts, crafts, cuisines, and folk cultures. This year’s event aims to celebrate, preserve, and promote the unique spirit of tribal communities through exhibits and performances.
The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of Durgadas Uikey, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, alongside other distinguished guests.
