Empowering Hope: Mizoram Governor Unveils Transformative Nasha Mukh Bharat Abhiyaan
Mizoram’s Governor, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, inaugurated the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) at Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall, aiming to tackle substance abuse under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Although Mizoram is known for its peace, the Governor expressed concern about the negative impact of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol on the youth.
He lauded the government, church, and civil society for their ongoing efforts against drug abuse and emphasized the need for a broader platform to combat this menace. Dr. Kambhampati suggested that the Brahma Kumaris, known for their meditation and disciplined lifestyle, could be instrumental in this campaign.
The Governor invited the people of Mizoram to support the Brahma Kumaris and urged students to avoid drugs while raising awareness of the associated dangers. He praised the persistence of those already fighting substance abuse and encouraged them to continue their efforts.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched in 2020, is a significant initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment to combat substance abuse across India. The campaign, which combines efforts to curb the supply by the Narcotics Control Bureau, outreach and demand reduction, and health department treatment, offers hope for a society free from addiction.
Also notable was the recent seizure of major explosives and contraband worth Rs 1 crore in Mizoram’s Serchhip, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the state in combating illicit activities.
