Arunachal Pradesh’s Ambitious Rs 50 Crore Investment in Parshuram Kund: Transforming Pilgrimage Tourism for an Unforgettable Experience
Arunachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein, recently visited Parshuram Kund in Lohit district to review the ongoing riverfront development projects. During his inspection, he announced an additional allocation of Rs 50 crore from the state government for infrastructure development, complementing an existing Rs 50 crore grant from the DoNER ministry. The initiative seeks to establish Parshuram Kund as a significant pilgrimage destination in Northeast India. Mein’s assessment included projects such as a guest house and a pilgrims’ lodge, emphasizing the need for permanent infrastructure to accommodate the influx of visitors.
In anticipation of the Parshuram Kund Mela 2025, Mein held a preparatory meeting attended by stakeholders like Tezu-Sunpura MLA Mohesh Chai and Wakro’s additional deputy commissioner AJ Lungphi. With the aim of delivering a seamless experience for the thousands of pilgrims expected to attend, the deputy CM urged the Lohit district administration and the Parshuram Kund Development Trust to ensure accommodations for at least 2,000 people per night during the festival. Furthermore, Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for the trust to manage the event effectively.
Recognized as an annual celebration during Makar Sankranti, the Parshuram Kund Mela draws a large number of devotees. With aspirations to elevate its stature, MLA Chai suggested branding it as the “Kumbh of the Northeast” and urged for meticulous preparations. Meanwhile, Modonso Tayang from the Parshuram Seva Samithi advocated for declaring the mela a calendar festival and securing necessary budget allocations. Additional review meetings are planned as the event date approaches, marking the start of intensive preparations. Through enhanced infrastructure and branding, the initiative aims to enrich the cultural and religious significance of Parshuram Kund, fostering increased tourism and religious congregation.
