Thrilling Expansion Unveiled: Coimbatore Airport Set for Transformation as AAI Secures Crucial Land Acquisition
In a significant development for Coimbatore’s infrastructure, the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport has advanced as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has formally taken possession of 472.325 acres of land acquired by the Tamil Nadu government for the project. Airport Director S. Senthil Valavan confirmed the transfer through a letter of approval issued on October 18, following discussions held on October 5 and 15 regarding various logistical challenges such as defence land, public land, and infrastructure services.
A review meeting was convened in Coimbatore on Monday by Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T.R.B. Raja, with representatives from TIDCO, AAI, and the district administration, to assess the progress and future plans. Minister Raja highlighted the fulfilment of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s election promise to the people of Coimbatore, by transferring the acquired land to the Union government for airport expansion. The state had invested ₹2,088.92 crore in the land acquisition.
Additionally, discussions focused on improving surrounding infrastructure, including roads, developing alternative routes, and planning other essential works. These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing Coimbatore’s connectivity and supporting future growth.
