Thadou Inpi Firmly Rejects TCI as ‘Unmandated’; Condemns Divisive ‘Thadou is Not Kuki’ Slogan
The Thadou Inpi General Headquarters, representing the Thadou tribe, has firmly denounced the Thadou Community International (TCI) Convention held in Guwahati, branding it as an unauthorized entity. They assert that TCI lacks the legitimate authority to represent the Thadou people, therefore discrediting its resolutions and statements as “null and void.”
The convention, which ran from October 31 to November 2, featured the controversial slogan “Thadou is not Kuki.” Chongpu Kipgen, President of the Thadou Inpi General Headquarters, dismissed this slogan as an “emotional outburst” and criticized factions within Any Kuki Tribe (AKT) for promoting divisive mentalities. Kipgen highlighted that the Thadou identity is historically intertwined with the broader Kuki community, akin to other indigenous groups in Manipur, and expressed concern that rejecting the Kuki label could threaten the tribe’s heritage and shared history.
Kipgen emphasized that TCI does not possess any mandate to speak for the Thadou community and criticized the convention for proceeding without the endorsement of Thadou Inpi, the recognized apex body of the Thadou people. He pointed out that TCI’s positions do not reflect the views of the Thadou majority.
The Thadou Inpi General Headquarters expressed apprehension over rhetoric that could fracture the community, urging a focus on unity and maintaining cultural affiliations with the larger Kuki identity. Kipgen accused certain AKT members of harboring sentiments of supremacy, which contradict the historical and cultural alliances cherished by the Thadou people.
The organization reaffirmed its dedication to preserving the Thadou tribe’s role within the Kuki community, warning that TCI’s divisive actions could sow discord and compromise cultural integrity. Thadou Inpi called for cautious rhetoric to safeguard unity and cultural ties, underscoring that TCI’s perspectives should not be considered representative of the Thadou populace.
