Urgent Crisis: Over 100 Trucks Stranded in Manipur-Nagaland Border Chaos Amid Naga Group Protests
Imphal: For the second consecutive day, around 100 trucks transporting goods from Guwahati to Imphal have been stranded at Mao, located along the Manipur-Nagaland border on National Highway 102. The Naga People’s Organization (NPO), alongside other voluntary groups, has intensified protests, blocking all commercial vehicular traffic beyond Senapati district headquarters. This action follows a complete shutdown in Senapati on November 2.
The protests are in response to the alleged assault of two Naga Paomei men by suspected members of the Aranbai Tenggol, a local socio-cultural organization in Manipur. The incident occurred on October 31 in Lamsang, Imphal West, involving a theft and physical attack. Police have apprehended two suspects in connection with the case and continue their investigations.
In an effort to alleviate the disruption, authorities have facilitated the passage of 48 trucks carrying essential supplies along NH-102. Enhanced security measures, including checkpoints and escorts, have been instituted in critical areas to ensure the safe movement of these essential goods.
The ongoing agitation highlights the tension in the region over issues of justice and community safety, impacting both transportation and commerce in Manipur.
