Outrage in Canada: Hindu Temples Attacked, Community Rallies with Passionate Solidarity Protests
In response to recent violent disruptions at Hindu temples in Brampton and Surrey, Hindus in Canada are organizing peaceful protests to address escalating religious tensions. The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) has called for demonstrations at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton and the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Surrey, following an attack on a consular camp at the Brampton site last Sunday.
The Hindu Canadian Foundation has released video footage of the incident, alleging that Khalistani extremists targeted women and children during the disruption. This act has sparked widespread condemnation from Canadian leaders. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced the violence, affirming that “every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely” and praised the swift response by Peel Regional Police.
Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre labeled the attack as “completely unacceptable,” while MP Chandra Arya noted that “a red line has been crossed” by the extremists. The Indian High Commission also expressed grave concern over the safety of applicants for consular services and criticized the local authorities’ handling of security, stating that future events would depend on enhanced security measures.
Meanwhile, MP Kevin Vuong criticized Canada’s response to religious extremism, arguing that the country has become “a safe harbour for radicals” and has failed to adequately protect the Hindu, Christian, and Jewish communities.
As concerns about religious tensions continue to rise in Canada, particularly within the Hindu community, protesters will convene at 6 pm at the affected temple locations in Brampton and Surrey. The events aim to demand better protection and highlight the need for stronger measures against religious extremism in Canada.
