Urgent: Heartwarming Revival of Gaza Polio Vaccination Amidst Ongoing Israel-Palestine Conflict
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that six individuals, including four children, were injured during a strike on a polio vaccination center in northern Gaza. The incident occurred amid intensified assaults by Israel on the region, obstructing humanitarian efforts. The United Nations, along with its agencies such as UNICEF and UNRWA, has initiated a polio vaccination campaign targeting children in northern Gaza as fears mount over accessibility due to ongoing Israeli attacks.
The campaign, crucial for preventing the deadly virus from spreading, had reached more than 560,000 children during its initial phase in September. However, the second phase aims to inoculate approximately 119,000 children, a target now challenged by severe access constraints.

The Sheikh Radwan health center in Gaza City, crucial for the campaign, was hit by a sound bomb, reportedly from an Israeli quadcopter, during an agreed humanitarian pause for vaccination. The attack underscores the harsh conditions faced by health authorities, who continue to administer vaccines across a network of 106 sites with 216 teams to reach displaced Palestinians.
The ongoing conflict has ravaged Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure, reviving polio after it had been eradicated for 25 years.
