A 24-year-old man, R. Gokul from Malvai village, was arrested by the Kallakudi police on Friday for allegedly assaulting a nurse near Lalgudi. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the nurse, 40, was walking home from her job at a primary health centre. Gokul, reportedly intoxicated, followed and accosted her near the Siluvaipatti second bridge, intending to outrage her modesty. The nurse’s cries for help alerted passers-by, who intervened and took her to Lalgudi Government Hospital for treatment. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under five sections of the BNS and detained Gokul in Tiruchi central prison. The investigation is ongoing.
