Unprecedented Torrential Downpour Dampens Spirits in Guwahati During Kali Puja & Diwali Celebrations | Heartfelt News
The post-monsoon weather in Guwahati and its surrounding areas, as well as parts of the northeast, unexpectedly shifted with heavy rains during Kali Puja and Diwali. According to meteorological officials, the precipitation is due to moisture from the Bay of Bengal, and conditions are expected to improve soon. An upper air cyclonic circulation is affecting the lower tropospheric levels over northeast Assam. Although the rainfall was moderate, it dampened market activities in the early hours of Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts continued light to moderate rainfall across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on Friday, with light showers likely in isolated areas of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur, while Mizoram and Tripura should remain dry.
Kolkata, meanwhile, anticipates light rain on Kali Puja due to a high-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, causing sporadic light drizzles rather than heavy rain, with skies clearing quickly. Recently, Kolkata faced severe waterlogging due to Cyclone Dana, which brought torrential rain and caused significant disruptions. Over 100 mm of rain was recorded, impacting major areas like Bhawanipur and New Market. Authorities are working to manage drainage challenges amid continuous rain and high tides.
Leading up to Kali Puja, Kolkata is expected to have intermittent light rain and cloudy skies, attributed to a moisture-rich high-pressure zone over the Bay of Bengal. This resulted in sporadic showers and temperatures reaching up to 31.5°C. The situation emphasizes the unpredictability of northeast India’s weather patterns during this time of year, impacting both festive activities and daily life.
