Outrage in Dibrugarh: Locals Deliver Swift Justice to Suspected Cattle Lifters
In Dibrugarh, Assam, five individuals identified as Vicky Hussain, Rahul Rai, Saiful Islam, Latu Das, and Kiran Das were assaulted by locals in the Bogibeel area on suspicions of cattle theft. The men, traveling in a Mahindra Scorpio SUV with a motorcycle registration plate, were chased and apprehended by the agitated crowd who accused them of being involved in cattle lifting before handing them over to the police.
According to police reports, the individuals confessed their involvement in cattle theft to the locals. They allegedly claimed to work for Atikur Ali from the Naliapool area of Dibrugarh, reportedly the mastermind behind cattle smuggling operations in the region. They further disclosed that they received a monthly payment of Rs 3000-4000 to carry out the theft tasks for Ali.
In response to these allegations, the police have launched an investigation to verify the claims and gather more evidence related to the case.
This incident highlights the ongoing problem of cattle theft in the region and the community’s proactive, albeit aggressive, approach to detain suspects. Meanwhile, police caution against taking the law into one’s own hands and assure that they are working diligently to address such criminal activities through proper channels.
In related news, law enforcement successfully thwarted a Diwali night rhino poaching plan, arresting four individuals in Darrang, Assam. At the political front, Raijor Dal announced plans to contest all 126 seats in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, a move that has garnered public interest and political debate. These developments emphasize the complex social and political landscape of Assam, where issues of crime and governance continue to unfold.
