Dimapur Police Unveil Exciting Guidelines for Safe and Joyous Firecracker Celebrations This Festive Season – Northeast News
Dimapur Police has outlined new guidelines regarding the use of firecrackers during festivals, prioritizing environmental conservation and community health. In a recent advisory, Commissioner of Police Kevithuto Sophie urged citizens to avoid firecrackers due to their harmful environmental impact and the distress they cause to both humans and animals. A general ban on firecrackers is in effect, with specific exceptions for designated occasions.
Permitted fireworks hours are between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. for Diwali and similar festivals like Gurupurab. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, fireworks can be used from 11:55 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sales are restricted to licensed vendors, and only approved firecrackers are allowed for sale. Strict prohibitions are in place for certain types of firecrackers, particularly those containing hazardous chemicals like barium salts or those exceeding noise levels of 125 dB (AI) or 145 dB (C)pk at four meters from the burst point.
Additionally, bursting firecrackers within silence zones—100 meters from hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and religious sites—is not allowed. The use of series crackers and fireworks that do not meet the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation’s emission standards is also banned. Violators of these restrictions will face legal penalties.
The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on eco-friendly celebrations. Ultimately, the Dimapur Police’s directive serves as a call to action for residents to consider alternative, sustainable ways to celebrate festivals without compromising public safety or environmental integrity.
