Early this morning, a stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus injured nine passengers due to overcrowding on Platform No. 1. The incident happened around 2:55 a.m. as people were waiting for the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express, scheduled to depart at 5:10 a.m. According to the BMC’s Disaster Management Cell, nine individuals were admitted to the hospital. Among them, two are critically injured: Indrajith Sahani, 19, and Noor Mohammad Shaikh, 18. The other seven passengers, including Shabbir Abdul Rehman, 40, and Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta, 28, are stable.
Initial investigations suggest the stampede was caused by passengers attempting to board the general class coaches of the moving train upon its arrival at the platform. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and further updates are anticipated as the situation develops.
