Historic Triumph: NFHRCC’s Landmark Pact Transforms Foothill Roads Project
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 26 (MExN): A crucial consultative meeting took place on October 26 at the Nagaland Foothill Roads Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) office in Kher Mahal, Dimapur, involving 12 Dimapur-based tribal hohos and unions alongside the NFHRCC. This gathering was a response to a letter from the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) dated October 16, which declared that NFHRCC would not be involved in work allocation or any tripartite agreements for the Foothills Road Construction Project.
The meeting, highlighted in a press release by NFHRCC leaders Supu Jamir, Hokiye Yepthomi, W. Lemba Chang, and Chenithung Humtsoe, underscored the necessity for the PWD to consult or involve the Committee in decisions concerning the road project. This stance is rooted in a resolution from 2013, which strictly prohibits the politicization of the project. The assembled tribal hohos and unions vehemently reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the completion of the Foothills Road Project, emphasizing that they will not stand by passively while the project is at risk.
The meeting’s unified stance aims to ensure that the project is handled transparently and effectively, without political interference. This determination mirrors the sentiments of the local populace who are reliant on this pivotal infrastructure development. The tribal hohos and NFHRCC collectively asserted their readiness to employ any means necessary to maintain the integrity of the project and ensure its timely completion. This development signals a strong community-driven approach to infrastructure governance in Nagaland, reflecting the unwavering resolve of local entities to protect regional development interests.
