ED Crackdown: Exposing the Emotional War Against Coldplay & Diljit Concert Ticket Black Marketeers in 5 Cities
In a major crackdown involving the high-stakes world of concert ticket sales, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has conducted multi-city raids across 13 locations in New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Bangalore. This operation comes in response to significant fan outrage over the alleged black-marketing and counterfeiting of concert tickets for British rock band Coldplay and actor-singer Diljeet Dosanjh.
An official revealed that these raids were part of an investigation into the illegal ticket sales for Diljeet Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ tour and Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ slated for January 2025 in Mumbai. Reports surfaced of tickets being sold on the grey market for up to Rs 1,00,000 each, leading to the ED’s intervention to dismantle the financial networks behind these scams and trace the illicit earnings.
During the operation, several individuals involved in the alleged scams were identified, with evidence suggesting misuse of social media platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram. The ED also seized incriminating materials, including mobile phones, laptops, and SIM cards used in furthering the illegal activities, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
The rapid sellout of tickets on official platforms like Bookmyshow and Zomato Live reportedly led to their black-market proliferation at exorbitantly high prices. As fans rushed to secure tickets, many fell victim to conmen selling either fake or overpriced tickets through social media.
Consequently, multiple FIRs were filed in various states, including one by Bookmyshow, against unnamed suspects who allegedly exploited the high demand by selling counterfeit tickets at greatly inflated rates. This sweeping crackdown underscores the urgent need to address the rising issue of ticket fraud in India’s bustling entertainment industry.
