Breaking: Special Court in Mumbai Denies Sachin Waze’s Dramatic Plea to Become an Approver in High-Stakes PMLA Case
A Mumbai Sessions Court has denied former Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze’s request to become an approver and receive a pardon in a money laundering case involving Anil Deshmukh, a former Maharashtra Home Minister. The court, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, found enough evidence against Waze, making his testimony unnecessary. Special Judge A.U. Kadam noted that Waze’s application suggests his involvement in the alleged crimes and that there is no shortage of evidence against the accused parties. The court stated that Section 306 of the Code of Criminal Procedure is intended to prevent offenders from escaping punishment when evidence is scarce. Separately, the Bombay High Court granted Waze bail in a corruption case investigated by the CBI, with conditions set by the special judge. Waze, arrested in April 2022 alongside Deshmukh and others, claimed he collected bribes for Deshmukh from Mumbai’s restaurant and bar owners. Allegations also link Waze to a fake bomb scare at Mukesh Ambani’s residence and the murder case of businessman Mansukh Hiren, with charges from both the ED and the NIA.
