Tragic J&K Attack: Devastating Loss as 2 Soldiers and 2 Brave Porters Killed in Army Truck Ambush
In a tragic incident in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, two soldiers and two civilian porters were killed in a terrorist ambush on a military truck transporting supplies near the Nagin area of Botapathri, close to the Line of Control (LoC). The attack also injured three more soldiers from the 18 Rashtriya Rifles and two porters, marking the fourth terrorist attack since the new government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assumed office in Jammu and Kashmir on October 16. Despite peaceful assembly elections held from September 18 to October 1, the region has seen a rise in terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations this year.
The fatalities from this latest ambush add to the increasing number of security force casualties, totaling 24 since May 4, with 18 deaths in the Jammu region and six in Kashmir. At least 20 terrorists have been neutralized in operations during the same period. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the surge in violence, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Earlier on Thursday, a barber from Uttar Pradesh was injured in an attack in Pulwama district. Additionally, a tunnel-construction firm’s seven employees were killed in Ganderbal district on Sunday, and a migrant worker from Bihar was abducted and murdered in Shopian district last Friday.
The ambush mirrored past attacks on military convoys in Jammu and Kashmir, including a May 4 attack on two IAF vehicles in Poonch district that resulted in the death of Corporal Vikky Pahade. The ambush occurred between two security checkpoints along the LoC route. Previous similar attacks last year in Poonch and Rajouri districts claimed the lives of nine soldiers, including two captains.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the attack and expressed hopes for the wounded’s recovery. The recurrence of these violent incidents underscores the persistent security challenges in the region.
