Urgent Call: Assam CM Demands Immediate NRC Implementation in Jharkhand to Safeguard State’s Demographic Integrity
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) co-in-charge for electoral campaigns, expressed concerns over demographic shifts in Assam due to immigration, citing illegal infiltration from nearby countries. On October 23, Sarma highlighted that the Muslim population in Assam has nearly doubled since 1951, attributing this rise to unauthorized entry.
Drawing attention to similar trends in Jharkhand, Sarma criticized the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress for alleged plans to alter the state’s demographic balance. He stressed the BJP’s commitment to introducing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as a safeguard for maintaining demographic integrity.
Emphasizing the importance of preserving Hindu cultural identity, Sarma stated that Jharkhand’s survival hinges on maintaining its Hindu population. “It’s not just about electing an MLA or chief minister; it’s about ensuring Jharkhand retains its cultural legacy,” he asserted.
Sarma framed the upcoming elections as a battle against extremism and stressed the importance of supporting the BJP to secure the state’s future. He encouraged voters to rally behind the party as a decisive step in protecting Jharkhand’s identity.
