In a concerted operation on Tuesday, a joint team from the Manipur Police Anti Extortion Squad and Imphal East District police successfully apprehended six suspected members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party, People’s War Group (KCP-PWG). The arrest transpired in and around the JNIMS hospital and Porompat areas of Imphal East district, following intelligence alerts regarding illegal arms dealings and extortion activities.
The authorities recovered significant evidence, including Rs 3.88 lakhs in cash, a car, two motorcycles, six mobile phones, wallets, ID cards, and other items. The individuals arrested were identified as Oinam Abung Meitei (31), Leimapokpam Hari Meitei (53), Yaikhom Lukhoi Singh alias Inao (32), Oinam Bijen Meitei (25), Athokpham Irengbam alias Inaobi Devi (38), and Moirangthem Ichan Devi (20). These arrests come after a swift two-hour operation aimed at curbing the group’s extortion efforts targeting the general public, hospitals, private businesses, and government offices.
All arrested individuals, along with the confiscated items, are currently in police custody as further legal proceedings are underway. The operation signals a decisive step by local law enforcement to combat illegal activities undermining public safety and order in the region.
