On October 23, the first snowfall of the season transformed the route from Tawang to Bum-La Pass into a scenic wonderland, attracting thousands of visitors to this strategic location near the Sino-Indian border in Arunachal Pradesh.
Nestled at an elevation of 15,200 feet, the historic Bum-La Pass is renowned for its role as an invasion route during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Today, it captivated tourists from cities like Assam, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, eager to witness the snow-clad terrain.
Coinciding with this natural spectacle, Tawang is gearing up to host its second annual marathon tomorrow, further enhancing its reputation as a winter attraction. Just 37 kilometers from Bum-La Pass, Tawang has become a favored destination for tourists from October to December.
Speaking with India Today NE, visitors expressed joy at experiencing the pristine, zero-pollution environment of Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang boasts significant landmarks such as the centuries-old Tawang Monastery, one of India’s largest Buddhist monasteries, and the Tawang War Memorial, honoring those who defended the region.
