A massive landslip on the Mattrapalli-Pudur Nadu Main Road atop the Jawadhu Hills near Tirupattur has impeded traffic after intense rainfall in the region. A 50-member team from State Highways is actively working to clear the road, deploying earthmovers to remove fallen trees and large boulders. The continuous downpour caused significant damage, with excess rainwater discharged through 40 culverts damaging the 15-foot-wide bitumen carriageway in at least 20 locations. This vital road is crucial for tribal communities, connecting 40 Malayali tribe hamlets to larger towns in the plains, with over 200 vehicles traversing it daily. While government bus services continued twice a day, the landslip severely affected the route. Work to restore this key thoroughfare is progressing swiftly, promising a quick return to normalcy for local residents.
