Outrage As CSU Launches Bold Agitation Over Deplorable Kohima-Jessami Road Conditions
Pfutsero, October 21 (MExN): In a significant move, the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has begun an agitation by sealing the Project Management Unit (PMU) office of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Pfutsero. The CSU’s action follows an unmet ultimatum concerning the deplorable condition of the Kohima-Jessami road, specifically the Chakhabama-Kikruma section under Package-II.
Dissatisfaction with the repair and maintenance efforts by NHIDCL prompted this bold move. During a site visit on October 19, the CSU found the work to be substandard. They communicated their discontent in a letter to the NHIDCL’s General Manager in Pfutsero and outlined specific demands: immediate clearance of landslides and obstacles impairing vehicular movement, repair of potholes, and installation of an effective drainage system.
The CSU is also calling for the termination of the contract with Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., citing a recommendation from Phek district PMU dated June 13, 2024. This recommendation stems from a belief that the contractor has failed to meet acceptable standards.
The students’ union underscores the urgency of these demands and has warned of an escalation in their actions should there be no satisfactory resolution. The first phase of their agitation will persist until these demands are adequately addressed.
This development reflects growing impatience and frustration within the community regarding infrastructure issues and represents a significant challenge for NHIDCL and the concerned contractors. The CSU’s decisive action signals a broader concern for accountability and quality in public infrastructure projects within the region. The unfolding situation is being closely watched, as it carries implications for future engagements between civic groups and government agencies in Nagaland.
