Vladimir Putin Praises PM Modi’s Bold Efforts to Resolve Ukraine Conflict Ahead of Impactful BRICS Summit
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized on Friday that the BRICS bloc, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE, is not anti-Western but a non-Western coalition poised to be a major driver of global economic growth. Putin’s remarks come ahead of the BRICS summit he will host in Kazan from October 22-24. He highlighted the group’s significant role in global politics and trade due to its expanding size and faster economic growth compared to Western countries.
Echoing Putin’s sentiment, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also stated that BRICS is not intended as an adversarial force against the West. The group is more focused on creating new alliances outside the traditional Western-centric frameworks.
On the topic of the Ukraine conflict, Putin reiterated Russia’s interest in resolving the situation peacefully, noting that negotiations were halted by Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to PM Modi for frequently raising the issue in their discussions, acknowledging India’s concern for a peaceful resolution.
Regarding cultural collaborations, Putin addressed the popularity of Indian cinema in Russia. He indicated the potential for further cultural exchange, noting that Russia has a TV channel dedicated to Indian films and hosts the BRICS film festival. Putin expressed openness to supporting Indian filmmakers in Russia, mentioning the possibility of fostering collaboration in the pharmaceutical sector as well.
This summit highlights BRICS’ ambitions to consolidate its influence as a significant non-Western entity in global affairs while fostering cross-cultural and economic collaborations among member states.
