Revitalize Tiruchi: Swift Action to Transform Damaged Roads into Safe Pathways
The Tiruchi Corporation is set to repair severely damaged roads across all five zones of the city. Damage resulted from concurrent underground drainage and drinking water projects, exacerbated by recent rainfall. Some roads laid post-drainage work have become unmotorable. Temporary gravel coverings were applied to sections hit by summer rain, but a permanent fix is now on the agenda. Junior engineers have been tasked with identifying roads in need of extensive repair, and ₹2 crore will be allocated for this work pending approval in the upcoming council meeting, according to Mayor M. Anbazhagan. The plan includes wet mix patchwork and leveling of potholes. Additional roads will likely be addressed in phases, with funds sourced from the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Fund (TURIF) and Nagarpura Salaigal Membattu Thittam (NSMT). Previously, ₹8 crore under TURIF 2024-25 was approved for roadwork in 14 city wards, covering areas such as Rockfort, Woraiyur, and Crawford.
