Tragic Loss: Unforeseen Road Accident Claims Lives of 2 Assam Police Heroes in Patharkandi
A tragic accident on the Patharkandi bypass in Karimganj district led to the deaths of two Assam Police battalion personnel late on October 17. The mishap occurred when their motorcycle collided with a stationary truck, which was parked without any rear lights. The victims were identified as Rahul Dev Burman from Patharkandi and Budhan Barman from Ratabari. They were traveling to Karimganj when they struck the unlit truck, instantly killing both officers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the lack of warning lights on the truck was a significant factor in the collision. This incident has sparked renewed concerns in the community about the frequent practice of parking trucks unsafely at night on the bypass. Similar accidents have occurred due to poorly lit and improperly parked vehicles.
Local residents are urging authorities to implement stringent measures to prevent such tragedies, such as enforcing stricter traffic regulations and enhancing roadside lighting. This incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures to protect lives.
Additionally, the Cachar district administration in Assam has committed to ensuring paddy sales at a minimum support price of Rs 2300 for Kati Bihu, addressing economic concerns in the region.
