Advisor Khamo Strongly Condemns Deplorable Condition of NH-29 Kohima-Jessami: Urgent Call for Action
Phek, October 15 (MExN): Küdecho Khamo, the Advisor for the Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) and Taxes, delivered a scathing critique of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) during the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting in Phek, highlighting the deteriorating state of the Kohima-Jessami Road, particularly from Kikruma to Chakhabama. He condemned NHIDCL for their sluggish and substandard progress and failure to meet specifications. Khamo noted the failure of maintenance contractors to fulfill their duties and criticized NHIDCL’s excuses, particularly their tendency to blame the monsoon and the contractors they selected. This negligence, he argued, has caused significant inconvenience and poses severe risks to commuters while leading to financial losses related to increased fuel costs, vehicle damages, and time wastage.
Khamo expressed surprise at the poor quality of work by NHIDCL in Nagaland and questioned their commitment, comparing it unfavorably to their projects in other states. He warned that continued neglect might force the public to take drastic actions. The road project in question, covering a 21.90 km stretch from near Chakhabama to near Kikruma village, is part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana and undertaken by the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, M/s Ratna Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman of DPDB Phek, John Tsulise Sangtam, also featured speeches by MLA Neisatuo Mero and Advisor for New & Renewable Energy and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, N. Nyusietho Nyuthe. Key decisions included approving the renaming of Nazareth School in Pfutsero to Nazareth Higher Secondary School and tabling the leasing of the PWD guest house for the next meeting. Additionally, the Land Resources Department presented its report. A notable moment was the felicitation of Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra, Superintendent of Police, Phek, for receiving the prestigious US-based International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) award.
