Empowering Devotion: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Inspiring Visit to Kokrajhar’s Durga Puja Mandaps
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated Maha Asthami by visiting several Durga Puja mandaps in Kokrajhar on October 11. Accompanied by BTC Chief Pramod Boro, MP Joyanta Basumatary, and MLA Lawrence Islary, Sarma began his visit at the Kokrajhar main market puja mandap and then proceeded to those at Gaur Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Subhaspalli, and Depot Road. During a brief address, Sarma expressed his delight at witnessing individuals from various backgrounds come together in peaceful celebration. He highlighted the significance of Goddess Durga Devi’s power in defeating evil and promoting peace and brotherhood. Sarma conveyed his hopes that the goddess’s blessings would bring peace and progress to all families in the region.
The event saw long queues of devotees at multiple mandaps, including the busy Kokrajhar Main Market. In Kokrajhar alone, a total of 112 puja mandaps were established for the occasion. The ceremony concluded with the peaceful immersion of Durga idols in River Gaurang, under the watchful eye of the district administration and senior police officials.
Also notable was the serene celebration of the 576th Abirbhav Tithi of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev near North Lakhimpur town, emphasizing the region’s rich cultural heritage. The event exemplified harmony and unity, making it a memorable occasion for all participants.
