Brace Yourself: Chennai Set for Torrential Downpour as Northeast Monsoon Unleashes Its Fury!
The northeast monsoon is anticipated to start around October 15 or 16, bringing potentially heavy rainfall to Chennai and surrounding areas, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The rapid withdrawal of the southwest monsoon is expected to conclude in the next four days, paving the way for the onset of the northeast monsoon. A cyclonic circulation now positioned over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a low-pressure area by October 14, moving towards northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh in the following 48 hours. As a result, regions including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, and Puducherry are forecasted to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 15 and 16. Additional districts like Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Salem might also receive substantial rain. Meanwhile, several areas in Tamil Nadu have already experienced significant rainfall, with Madurai reporting the highest at 16 cm, followed by Tirubhuvanam in Sivaganga with 14 cm, and several others receiving 12 cm each.
