Stunning Breakthrough: Assam Police’s STF Crushes Counterfeit Currency Ring, Arrests Trio from Meghalaya
Guwahati: On Tuesday, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police detained three individuals in the Sundarpur area of Guwahati and confiscated a bundle of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). Acting on specific intelligence, the STF conducted a raid near Ganeshguri under Dispur police station’s jurisdiction, leading to the arrest of the suspects from Meghalaya.
The suspects were identified as Ariven K. Marwein (31), Nicholas Shangpliang (56), and Shembok Nongsiej (37), all residents of Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills district. During the operation, authorities searched their vehicle, which had the registration number ML06-8742, uncovering counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 23,000.
In addition to the counterfeit currency, officials seized 564 pieces of white paper designed to resemble 500 rupee notes, secured with green adhesive tape. The search also yielded four mobile phones and Rs 2,120 in cash.
The Assam Police have launched an investigation into the case, seeking to unravel the extent of the counterfeiting operation and any possible connections to larger networks. This arrest underscores the efforts of law enforcement in combating the circulation of fake currency in the region.
