Exciting Partnership: Maharashtra Govt and SAI Join Forces to Launch Prestigious National Centre of Excellence in Mumbai
The Government of Maharashtra and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a National Centre of Excellence in Kandivali, Mumbai. The signing was attended by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal. Minister Goyal highlighted the central government’s dedication to enhancing India’s global sports performance and expressed optimism for India hosting the 2036 Olympics. He emphasized the pivotal role the new centre is expected to play in this vision.
The planned National Centre of Excellence will occupy a 37-acre land parcel leased to SAI for 30 years at a nominal annual rate of Rs. 1. SAI’s ambitious development plan includes constructing state-of-the-art athlete accommodations, a central dining facility, an international-standard hockey field with floodlights, a versatile sports hall, and a cutting-edge sports science centre for injury management and rehabilitation. This initiative aims to meet international sports standards and nurture athletic talent in India.
