Unmissable Holiday Delight: Andrew Flintoff Hosts Bullseye Xmas Special with ‘Can’t Beat a Bit of Bully’ Charm!
Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff is set to reignite his television hosting career with a special Christmas episode of the iconic gameshow Bullseye. This marks his return to TV presenting since a severe car accident halted his career while filming Top Gear in December 2022. The crash left Flintoff, 46, with significant facial injuries and broken ribs, necessitating numerous surgeries. Despite these challenges, he has made headlines lately for the documentary series Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, in which he mentored young people from his hometown of Preston on a cricketing tour of India.
The one-off Bullseye revival will air in December, seeing Flintoff replace the beloved late comedian Jim Bowen as host. Originally popular in the 1980s, the darts-themed show combines the thrill of darts with general knowledge questions posed to teams of two: a “thrower,” who plays darts, and a “knower,” who answers questions. Flintoff expressed his excitement, saying, “I love the darts and Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid. Can’t quite believe I’ll get to host this Christmas special. You can’t beat a bit of Bully!”
Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s head of entertainment commissioning, shared her enthusiasm, stating, “Bullseye is back and we can’t wait to welcome Freddie Flintoff back to ITV, too.” The return of Bullseye, alongside Flintoff’s hosting, promises to be a highlight of the Christmas schedule on ITV1 and ITVX.
Prizes on Bullseye have always been quirky and sometimes shared awkwardly. Aside from vacation getaways, past prizes have included a Corby trouser press, fitted kitchens, and even the elusive speedboat, notoriously won by contestants residing miles from the nearest coast. With this revival, fans old and new can look forward to reliving the game show’s unique charm and unexpected rewards.
