Unlock the Future: Transformative Tech News & Expert Details to Inspire Innovation
Google is enhancing its AI Overviews by incorporating product advertisements, enabling users to view related products for purchase when they search for specific topics. These ads, labeled under a “sponsored” header, will appear only if the search query has a commercial intent, as confirmed by Google spokesperson Craig Ewer to The Verge. This initiative, first tested in May, is now launching in the U.S. for mobile users.
Besides advertisements, Google is also revamping the design of AI Overviews to highlight cited sources more prominently on the right side, enhancing traffic to these supporting websites. This change came after testing in August showed improved engagement. Google’s AI Overviews offer concise summaries by sourcing information from various web pages, allowing users to better understand complex topics swiftly. They also provide users with direct access to detailed content from credible sites.
In addition to ads, Google is rolling out AI-organized search results pages that provide personalized responses rather than just links, specifically for recipe and meal idea queries on mobile in the U.S. This aligns with Microsoft’s strategy, which includes ads in its Copilot chatbot.
AI Overviews are also expanding linguistically, adding support for Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi, building on its existing Hindi functionality. Other innovations include AI-generated review summaries in Google Maps and a new video-led AI Overview feature in Search Labs, allowing users to create video-based summaries using Google Lens.
This strategic expansion signifies Google’s ongoing commitment to leverage AI for delivering a more intuitive and informative search experience.
