Thrilling Kickoff: Meghalaya’s Shillong Premier League 2024 Ignites Football Passion on October 16!
The Shillong Premier League 2024 is set to kick off on October 16, marking the beginning of an exciting season with 90 matches in an expanded tier of the Shillong Sports Association’s football pyramid. This year, 10 teams will compete for the title, including reigning champions Mawlai SC, 2023 runners-up Rangdajied United FC, and semifinalists Shillong Lajong FC and Langsning FC from last year. Other contenders include Ryntih FC, Sawmer SC, Nongthymmai SC, Nangkiew Irat SC, and newly promoted Nongrim Hills SC and Laitkor SC from the 2023 First Division.
OC Blue returns as the title sponsor this season, and the Shillong Sports Association (SSA) has announced a significant increase in prize money. Champions will now receive Rs 6 lakh, double the previous amount, and runners-up will earn Rs 3 lakh. All teams will continue to benefit from a portion of ticket sales revenue.
SSA President Banteidor Lyngdoh disclosed these exciting developments at the league’s launch event, where the prestigious trophy was unveiled in the presence of the captains of all 10 participating teams. To enhance the viewing experience, several matches will take place under floodlights at the SSA Stadium at First Ground.
The anticipation for this season is palpable in Meghalaya, a state famed for its fervent football fanbase and talented players. The league promises to be a fiercely competitive event, underscoring the region’s passion for the sport.
