Revving Up Memories: Rider Anand Dharesan’s Unforgettable GS Trophy 2024 Journey and Passion for Riding
Anand Dharesan, an entrepreneur from Kerala, made headlines as a key member of Team India during the International GS Trophy 2024 held in Namibia. This prestigious biennial adventure motorcycling event, organized by BMW Motorrad, draws the crème de la crème of GS motorcycle enthusiasts from around the globe. Anand’s journey into the world of adventure motorcycling began in 2016, following a life-altering trip from Kanyakumari to Leh. In 2024, along with teammates Devaraj Venkatesh and Shahan Khan, Anand helped Team India secure a top-10 finish—an unprecedented achievement for the country in this tournament.
The GS Trophy, initiated in 2008, consists of arduous off-road challenges spread over a 1,350-kilometer course. Among these were tasks like hoisting motorcycles across ledges, a treasure hunt, and a slow trial. For Anand, the rigorous preparation involved training in diverse terrains, from Rajasthan’s dunes to the rocky expanses of Karnataka and the high-altitude landscapes of Spiti Valley.
Despite grueling conditions leading to injuries among participants, Anand found inspiration in meeting UK superbike racer Mike Booth, who competed despite losing his leg in 2022. His experience altered his family’s view of his biking pursuits, as his father now proudly shares Anand’s GS Trophy videos. Receiving encouraging letters from his children, Anand’s story underscores his dedication and passion for adventure motorcycling, making the Indian biking community proud.
