Revolutionary Success: Nitin Gadkari Champions the Transformative Use of 8 Million Metric Tonnes of Waste in Highway Projects
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, announced the innovative use of waste materials in national infrastructure projects. Speaking at an event by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Gadkari highlighted that eight million metric tonnes of segregated waste have been utilized in building National Highways. This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also exemplifies creative resource management in infrastructure development.
Gadkari further emphasized the sustainable efforts of Nagpur Municipal Corporation by noting that treated sewage water is being effectively repurposed to assist a nearby thermal power generation plant. Moreover, he stated that reserve water from the Pench, Koradi, and Khaparkheda projects is being made available to aid farmers with irrigation, underscoring a commitment to enhancing agricultural support and water conservation.
In addition, the minister proposed an innovative approach to waste management by suggesting the production of bio-CNG from waste. He urged the Municipal Corporation to consider integrating bio-CNG into their vehicle fleet. This move could potentially contribute to cleaner urban transport and further waste management enhancement.
